Changes for version 0.003 - 2026-10-15

  • Build:
  • The ckdl sources are now bundled in the ckdl/ directory and compiled into the extension. Alien::ckdl is no longer a dependency, and installing needs no network access beyond CPAN. ckdl/UPSTREAM.md names the bundled upstream commit (the same one Alien::ckdl 0.001 built).
  • ExtUtils::MakeMaker 7.06 or newer is required to configure.
  • Perl 5.30 or newer is required: older perls convert number text to floats without correct rounding, so 17-digit floats did not round-trip.
  • Fixes:
  • Floats are read and written at the width of the perl's own floating point type. On perls built with -Duselongdouble or -Dusequadmath every float was narrowed to a double: 0.1 + 0.2 was written as 0.3, a parsed 0.1 was not the nearest long double, and quadmath perls panicked with "quadmath_snprintf failed" for every float (GitHub #1).
  • Tests and platforms:
  • CI now covers macOS, Windows (Strawberry Perl) and FreeBSD besides Linux, and the test suite passes on all of them.
  • On Windows a few decimal floats read back one ulp off: ckdl converts them as mantissa * pow(10, exponent), and the Windows C runtime's pow is not correctly rounded. The emitted text is exact; the round-trip test is skipped there.
